a tornado ripped through England 1091

 On October 23, 1091, a tornado ripped through England, striking London, and is assumed to be the most important known tornado within the UK, also because the earliest, and had wind speeds as high as 240 mph.

Back then, during the reign of William II , there was drastically less infrastructure than today, and therefore the its 200+ mph winds did cause the London Bridge to subside , and therefore the nearby church of St. Mary-le-Bow was also leveled. 

Accounts from the time report that four 26-foot long rafters were driven thus deeply into the globe by the force of the tornado that only four feet remained visible on top of ground. Several hundred wooden dwellings within the city were also destroyed by the twister, along side numerous other lesser known churches. 

The most amazing outcome of the 1091 London tornado was that only two people are believed to possess died in its fury.
